What is The Shortlist?
The Shortlist is a music prize, sponsored by XM sat. radio and MTV2. A group of judges nominate albums to the Longlist, which is then pared down to find a winner. The albums must have a US release between July 1, 2003 and June 30, 2004 to be eligible.

Why the compilation?
I saw that MTV2 had created their own compilation, and thought “I can make a better list and compilation than that”. So I did.

For my Shortlist, I used the 2004 albums I had heard up until mid-September, and any 2003 albums that I did not hear in time to include in my Best of 2003 list.
